Instagram (also known as IG) is a video and photo-sharing social network service owned by Facebook. IG was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, and started in October 2010 exclusively on iOS.

Instagram growthHashtags have become such an integral part of our life that it’s hard to remember what social media was like without them. While we have Twitter to thank for the birth of the hashtag phenomenon, IG is the platform which brought hashtags to where they are today ruling the social media web. Hashtags on IG make content discoverable. That means they’re a HUGE part of IG success. If you desire to speed up IG growth, you can apply and seek the hashtags for business.

Let’s jump into a few ways you can:

  • Identify the best IG hashtags
  • Apply IG hashtags to grow reach
  • Build interaction by finding the IG hashtags
  1. Seek IG Hashtags

Discovering hashtags to apply in IG updates will let you:

  • Expand reach
  • Discover new events to participate in

Here are a few ways to discover new hashtags to apply on Instagram:

– Research Related Hashtags

Discovering hashtagsOne of the best instruments on the market providing this option is Keyhole. Simply finding the instrument for favorite hashtag and scroll down to “Related Hashtags” box to discover more hashtags to apply in IG update:

– Cluster Your Keyword Lists

They provide valuable insight. This insight is a great way to:

  • Better understand your audience
  • Find hashtags by turning keywords into hashtagsCluster Keyword Lists

One of the most effective exercises for all of the above is using a “keyword clustering” tactic, that is grouping your obscure keyword lists into categories by relevancy. Serpstat is one of the best tools for that because it uses Google as signal of relevancy.

– Research Competitor’s Hashtags

Your competitors must be learning from you regularly, so unless you follow your competitors, you are missing out!

Two useful tools to learn which hashtags your competitors are applying are:

  1. Apply HashtagsFanpage Karma

This tool has become a bit too pricey recently but the amount of insight is well worth it! When it comes to hashtags, Fanpage Karma displays that hashtags competitors are applying and even which of them seem to work best:

  1. Twitonomy

Twitonomy focuses on Twitter but Twitter hashtags can be safely re-used on IG, so it’s always useful to know that hashtags are using. On the plus hand, Twitonomy gives away that report for free, for every Twitter account you are analyzing with them.

Apply HashtagsApply Hashtags Your Customers Use

Monitoring that “customer talk” is important because basically they are who you desire to engage and search with IG updates.

It’s also a good idea to monitor most important hashtags on Twitter to build up a searchable archive to refer to and watch the hashtag context over time. I use Cyfe because it can monitor an unlimited number of Twitter searches:

  1. Build Content around Popular Hashtags

PostPlanner has a great downloadable list of Popular IG updates to include into your Instagram editorial plan.

  1. Plan Content for Seasonal and Timely Hashtagshashtags on Twitter

For example: plan blog and social media content one year in advance. Timely content on a consistent basis drives leads and puts exposure on auto-pilot. Here are a few ideas for you to use when working on social media editorial calendar:

  • Schedule 10-15 social media updates for major holidays and apply the variety of holiday-focused hashtags, depending on each update content.
  • Plan one update per month/day.
  • Plan at least 5 updates per season.

Timely HashtagsFor IG scheduling, the only tool I trust is because they adhere to IG posting policies. Here’s a nice IG guide from them.

  1. Display Your Instagram Feed on Blog

Show IG feed on engage and blog readers. From that list I tried and liked AccessPress IG Feed but don’t take my word for it.

IG hashtags, when used correctly, can increase social relevancy and interaction.
